It starts at the Salon of French Artists in 1869.
It is one of the founders of the Société Nationale des Beaux Arts.

"A baptism Bresse" scene of rural life, expressed in a coreg colorful Sunday best, the joys of a particular time of life.
The mother carries her child, overtaken by the father on the front of the church and followed by the sponsor who provides the sweets to children (whose emotions are very realistic) and all the guests costumes Bresse.
The entire procession is carried by the joy and music.

This painting was exhibited at the Salon of French Artists in 1877, acquired by the state that placed it at the Museum of Fine Arts in Lyon.
It is the counterpart to "Noce Burgundy in the eighteenth century" presented in 1876 and purchased by Princess Mathilde (Bonaparte)
Ours (89 cm Oil on canvas / 120/145 cm 113 cm with frame) was re-canvas.
It is presented in its original frame. It comes from a regional succession.
